kansas city is classy

dean & deluca in leawood, kansas? what the?!? i decided dean or deluca's daughter must live there or something considering the 4 other usa locations. in case you don't know this, matt loves a stylish grocery store. he stops at market street (not at all the same, but still - oh and he thinks of you each time, em) almost daily on his way home from work. because of this i knew it was worth braving the tornadoish snowstorm and making the drive just to see his reaction. within the first five minutes in this order he said: "okay maddie, we can each pick out one thing", "so let's just plan on spending $40", to finally "should we just do our grocery shopping here this week?" all dead serious too.

after sampling the different balsamic vinegars...

enjoying a delish lunch...

and spending an hour (no exaggeration) analyzing and pricing everything, we walked away with 2 sandwiches, fries, a package of penne pasta, marinara sauce, a red velvet cupcake, and a candy bar AND unfortunately still spent our entire weekly grocery budget. dang.

oh well, it's all worth it there and still ended up being a dreamy valentine's afternoon! hope yours was nice too.

Oh, no way!! I'm so jealous... that place is heaven. Totally get why Matt would want to spend every day there. Good looking food is almost as important as good tasting food, right? But how weird that it's in Kansas? hmm... must figure out why. The funniest thing was when we first got down here I was carrying around an old Dean & Deluca bag on campus and this guy stops me, SO excited, and asks "where is the dean & deluca here"!! Yeah, sorry guy. Looks like we're not quite as classy as Kansas.

It was once my dream to move to New York and work at Dean and Deluca. Seriously. I totally understand Matt's obsession with grocery stores. I'd take a job at Smith's any day as long as I was the cashier. Looks like Kansas was a hoot!! Congrats on a successful trip.

See- small towns can be classy. I bet the next Dean and Deluca is slated for Boise.

Glad you had a good valentine's.

we may have to meet there, say in the fall?

Kansas knows how to represent. Hopefully Jackie will get the same chance to change her mind about Kansas a little bit.

you go to kansas and the only thing you talk about is a grocery store? what about north wood trails? the exciting farms? the flat land?....ok maybe I see why you blogged about a grocery store...

I will try not to be offended that you didn't come visit, but next time tell me when you are headed to KC and we can meet there. It is only 2 hours from us. I guess since it was Valentines you're excused.
I love that Matt is a grocery snob. He would not fair well here.. our grocery options are Bag N' Save, No Frills, (no joke, these are real names) or the ever classy Walmart.

What a waste of time...I mean for someone else that would be an incredible waste of time. It's so bold of you to even choose that. It's incredible. You must be a very strong person.

Hey Maddie,
Your blog brought back some really great memories once I got past the whole dean and deluca thing (never heard of it before.) But it doesn't surprize me after oil tasting was Matt's highlight in Nappa.
